UK Immigration Rules

After 31 January, the UK will enter a transition period with the EU to allow both sides to negotiate their future relationship. This is due to last until 31 December 2020 and during this time the UK will still be bound by EU laws. 

Under the new Immigration Law, the UK will be open to highly skilled workers from anywhere in the world, but the door to those with low skills will be closed. See the Immigration Rules for job opportunities in the UK.

The Boris Johnson Government has launched a marketing campaign about the new UK visa system.  Unfortunately, the new visa system has been criticized as being unable to fully deal with the skills needs of the UK economy.  It remains very uncertain as to what will happen when there are farm worker and care worker shortages, due to the end of free movement of EU citizens into the UK from 1 January 2021.   Will there then be yet another Boris Johnson u-turn that will allow “low skilled workers” into the UK?
